5 Top Tips for a New Exercise Regime

Posted by Jack Miller on 10th Jun 2021

A new exercise regime can be a great way to lose weight, increase stamina, improve your general health and feel better about yourself. However, if you're new to fitness, overweight or struggle with mobility, it can seem like a daunting task, with chafe, sweating and tiredness to contend with. Your stamina might not be at peak levels yet and it might seem like a huge challenge, but you can do it! Here are 5 top tips for starting your own new exercise routine.

1) Stay hydrated

It is so important to stay hydrated during your workout so that you don't dehydrated and become lightheaded or dizzy. Drink water before, during and after your workout to avoid cramps or feeling sluggish from dehydration. Keep a bottle of water handy at all times, even if you're off for a jog around the park or a long hike and continue staying hydrated throughout your workout.

2) Know your limits

It's a cliche but it's true, getting fit is a marathon, not a sprint, and it's important that you don't overstretch yourself on the first day. Make sure you're not putting too much strain on your body with a range of different exercises and it's okay if you need to give yourself a break from the workout. Make sure you properly prepare and stretch out before and after your session. It's better to have one 10 minute workout session every day for a week than to push it until you're injured or feeling exhausted.

3) Prevent chafing

There are plenty of steps that can be taken to avoid developing those dreaded chafing rashes which come with vigorous exercise. At No More Chafe, our advanced anti chafing shorts are the perfect solution to this uncomfortable problem, allowing you to maintain your new exercise regime without the pain! Even the most experienced athletes suffer from chafing at the gym, and most wear specialised anti-chafing thigh bands.

4) Start slow

If you're starting a new exercise regime and it's been a while since you last worked out, it's best to start out slow. Don't push yourself too hard right away; instead, build up your stamina and muscles over time. This way, you'll be able to make the most of your workout sessions without endangering yourself unnecessarily or destroying your confidence.

5) Reward yourself

Taking control of your own fitness is a huge step, and though feeling healthy and losing weight are plenty rewarding enough, it will take time to see results. To keep those workouts fresh and exciting, try giving yourself rewards after each session! Maybe you enjoy a glass of wine after running a new record or a soothing bath full of bubbles to relax your muscles. Whatever it is, make sure to reward yourself for a job well done!
